NOV 12th - World Pneumonia Day

  • World Pneumonia Day is observed on November 12th. This was celebrated to mainly focus on creating the awareness about Pneumonia and its prevention. This was one of the widest spreading diseases in the world, as like covid-19 in 2020. Hence, this was considered as the leading infectious disease
  • The children under the age of 5 were being affected mostly. WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO) reported that, in 2019, 2.5 million people died from pneumonia. As said earlier, almost a third(3rd) of all victims were children.  

What is Pneumonia? How it is affecting Humans? 

  • Pneumonia is an infection of the tiny air-sac in lungs called alveoli. In a person with Pneumonia, the alveoli are filled with pus and fluid matter, which makes breathing painful and reduces the oxygen intake.
  • Pneumonia is caused by a number of different infectious agents, including viruses, bacteria, and fungi. 

How to celebrate this day? 

“PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE” 

  • By creating proper awareness to the people, the effects of Pneumonia and to take proper preventions.
